Enrichment

We offer a variety of enrichment activities included in your monthly tuition.

Music Class

Our students have weekly music classes, which are taught by our parent church’s Director of Worship and Music. Carrie Nell Backus has a strong love of music and children. Music at Emmanuel Lutheran School strives to develop a lifetime of love for music in the lives of little people. Students participate in weekly classes which support their language, cognitive, emotional, social, and physical development. Each child participates at his or her own level in singing, moving, listening, watching, and exploring musical instruments. For more information contact Carrie Nell.

Chapel

Our students attend chapel weekly lead by the Revered Aaron DeBenedetto. Pastor Aaron (as we lovingly call him) has led Emmanuel Lutheran Church since 2010. He has a Master of Divinity, which he earned from Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia, South Carolina. Pastor Aaron loves working with the children, and he knows each of them by name. Though our children are taught and shown the Love of Christ through our entire staff, Pastor Aaron spends specific time with the children each week in our church sanctuary teaching them both Bible stories and a preschool liturgy. For more information contact Pastor Aaron.

Foreign Language

Our 4 year olds learn both French and Spanish in class. These courses are led by their classroom teachers, Mrs. Herdman and Ms. Beth. The children learn counting, colors & language basics (hello, good-bye, thank you, my name is, how are you, etc.) in both French and Spanish in the 4 year old classroom.

Field Trips

We have both in-house and off-site field trips. In-house field trips are for all of our students. Among the “Places that Come to Us” are The Virginia Aquarium, The Virginia Zoo in Norfolk, Wapadoodle Puppets, Creature Comforts Bird Shows, and ODU’s Dental Hygienists. The Threes, Fours, and Kindergartners travel off site for some of their field trips. Among the places they visit: the Children’s Museum of Virginia, Chesapeake Planetarium, Strawberry Picking, and Pumpkin Picking/Hay Rides.

Extra-Curricular Activities

These additional activities are optional extra-curricular opportunities we offer for the children.
